Getting married

Getting married is intended to be a lifetime experience, and many people see this as incompatible with a fast wedding in Las Vegas. Critics of the Las Vegas marriage option often say that getting speed-married is an irresponsible and even vulgar thing to do. In their view, a proper wedding should take time to organize, and it should involve the groom and bride's families. Las Vegas is seen as a fun, gambling and sex town which, being so "corrupted" and "ill-famed", is by no means the right place for a serious wedding.

Well, they are wrong. Their views are those of a conservative, provincian, Victorian and uncosmopolitan America which is anyway vanishing as we walk deeper into the 21st century.

Getting married means making a solid commitment to another person. It is a bilateral agreement to share love, intimacy, life... Each couple is free to choose under which circumstances they want to make such a commitment. They may have been engaged for ages or hours. They may have been schoolmates or they may have met last night at the casino. Their whole families may have known or they may be stepping into marriage with no one else's approval or knowledge. Las Vegas is America's most free city and it's precisely this scent of liberty and individual sovereignty that attracts so many people. Las Vegas weddings have become a part of our country's lifestyle.
